The cycle engine
The cycle engine is the part of Recompose that turns your injection day into a plan. From your medication and the date of your first injection it works out your current cycle day, names the stage you are in (injection day, suppression, return or pre-shot) and tells every other part of the app what to ask of you today.
It is the first thing built and the thing everything else depends on. Your protein target, the meals you are shown, the workout that is offered and whether a missed session breaks your streak are all decided by which stage you are in.
What it needs from you
- Which GLP-1 medication you take.
- The weekday you inject.
- The date of your first injection, so the count is anchored to a real date rather than assumed.
That is the whole input. The maths runs in your browser: the free reveal on the home page uses exactly the same calculation as the signed-in app, with nothing sent anywhere.
What it produces
- Cycle day: "Day 3 of your shot week", counted from your last injection.
- Stage: which of the four phases you are in, with a plain sentence about what that day usually asks of people.
- Next injection countdown: how long until your next shot.
- Stage guidance: the diet, movement and supplement steer for today, rather than a generic daily target.
What it does when your dose changes
Moving up a dose usually makes the suppression stage stronger for a week or two. You can record a dose change in the app, and the guidance leans back towards protein-first, lighter-movement days while you settle.
Common questions
What if I change my injection day?
Update it in the app and the cycle re-anchors from your next injection. Most prescribing guidance suggests keeping a consistent day where you can.
Does the cycle engine work for daily GLP-1 medication?
It is built around a weekly injection, which covers Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic. A daily medication does not produce the same weekly pattern, so the stage guidance would not apply in the same way.
